Guayabera Sizing: Fit, Big and Tall, and Made to Measure
A guayabera is not meant to be tight. It is a shirt designed to hang from the shoulder and skim the body, which makes the shoulder and the length the two measurements that decide the look.
What a correct fit looks like
The shoulder seam should sit on the edge of your shoulder, not below it. The body should have room to move without billowing, and the hem should end around mid-hip — long enough to be worn out, short enough not to read like a tunic.
Sleeve: long sleeve ends at the wrist bone; short sleeve ends mid-bicep, not at the elbow.
Picking a size from S to 4XL
Measure your chest around the fullest point with the tape level, and your waist where you actually wear your trousers. Use the larger of the two against the size chart — the pleat panels absorb the difference.
Big and tall sizes go up to 4XL in the same cut, so the proportions of pockets and pleats stay correct instead of being scaled up crudely.
When chest and waist disagree
This is the most common reason a standard size disappoints: a 2XL chest with an XL waist ends up boxy. That is exactly the case for made to measure.
