How to take your measurements

Eleven measurements, one tape measure, five minutes. Follow the steps in order and note them down; at the end you enter them in the form and send them to us by email from anywhere in the world.

Shoulder, back and neck

Shoulder, back and neck

  1. 1

    Shoulder · Hombro

From the base of the neck to the point where the shoulder ends and the sleeve begins.

  2. 2

    Back · Espalda

Across the back, from one shoulder seam to the other, keeping the tape straight.

  3. 3

    Neck · Cuello

Around the base of the neck. Leave one finger of ease so the collar never tightens.

Sleeve, arm, forearm and cuff

Sleeve, arm, forearm and cuff

  1. 4

Sleeve length · Largo de manga

Start exactly where the arm begins, at the outer shoulder seam — never at the neck. Measure down over the slightly bent elbow to the wrist bone.

  2. 5

Arm width · Ancho de brazo

Around the widest part of the upper arm, arm relaxed at your side.

  3. 6

    Forearm · Antebrazo

Around the fullest part of the forearm, halfway between elbow and wrist.

  4. 7

    Cuff · Puño

Around the wrist, just above the bone, with a finger of ease.

Front length

Front length

  1. 8

Front length · Largo de frente

From the top of the shoulder, beside the collar, straight down to where you want the hem.

Chest, waist and hip

Chest, waist and hip

  1. 9

    Chest · Pecho

Around the fullest part of the chest, under the arms, breathing normally.

  2. 10

    Waist · Cintura

Around the natural waistline — the narrowest point, usually at the navel.

  3. 11

    Hip · Cadera

Around the fullest part of the hip, where the shirt hem will fall.

Atelier notes

  • Ask someone to help you — measurements taken by another person are far more accurate.
  • Wear a light shirt, stand naturally and do not hold your breath.
  • Keep the tape flat against the body: snug, never tight.
  • Use one unit only — all inches or all centimetres — and write halves as 20.5.
  • If you already own a shirt that fits perfectly, lay it flat and measure the garment instead.
